Why You Really Don’t Need Disposable Swim Nappies (and What to Use Instead!)

Apr 22, 2025

Let’s be honest - swim nappies are essential when your little one isn’t toilet trained. No one wants a code brown mid swim lesson. 😅 But before you reach for that pack of disposables, here’s why we think Reusable Swim Nappies are the best choice!

In New Zealand, we send around one million disposable nappies to landfill every single week. Yep, every week. While full-time cloth nappies might feel like a big leap, switching to a reusable swim nappy is an easy first step into the world of reusables.

If you’re using disposables for every swim class, or beach trip, you’ll end up going through a lot of them. They’re not cheap either! With a reusable swim nappy, you only need one (or maybe two if you have a pool or live by the beach and swim a lot!). That’s a one-time purchase that’ll last you for months, if not years.

Our swim nappies are adjustable and designed to fit bubs from around 3.5kg to 15kg. That’s newborn through to toddler for most families! If your little one isn't toilet trained when they’ve outgrown that size, don’t worry - we’ve got a large size too.

Reusable swim nappies have a PUL outer and a nylon mesh lining, which means they’re not absorbent. Absorbent materials would just soak up water and weigh bub down - not ideal for swimming. These nappies are designed to catch solids, not wees, so your baby can splash safely and comfortably.

We have so many fun prints - so why wouldn't you swap out the disposables for a reusable option!?

Oh, and don't forget the Wet Bag! Or we've got a Swim Nappy & Wet Bag Combo available if you want to save a little more $$. And if you are looking for cute swimwear, then check these out too!
