Starting Solids Without The Stress (from a Mum of 3)

Feb 12, 2026

Starting solids is a big milestone and if you are feeling excited, nervous, overwhelmed or all three, you are very much not alone. One day your baby is living on milk feeds and the next you are thinking about purées, choking risks, mess, schedules and whether you are doing it right.

Take a deep breath. Starting solids does not have to be perfect to be successful. It is about exploring, learning and slowly building confidence for both you and your little one.

Here are a few of my favourite products and how I used them with my 3 kids.

First tastes and tiny steps

Those first tastes are exactly that. Tastes. Your baby might scrunch their face, spit it out or want more straight away. All of it is normal (and very entertaining!).

A feeder can be a great place to start if you are feeling nervous. It allows baby to explore flavours safely while you build confidence.

Petite Eats First Tastes Feeder Perfect for introducing soft fruits, steamed veggies or frozen breastmilk. Babies can self-feed while you relax knowing they are exploring safely.

My top tip... make life easier, prep ahead.

Petite Eats Freezer Tray Ideal for freezing purées or breastmilk in perfectly sized portions. Less stress, less waste and always something ready to go.

Spoons, plates and letting them lead

Once your baby is ready for spoon feeding or baby-led weaning, the right tools really do help.

Petite Eats Spoons Gentle on little mouths and easy for parents or tiny hands to use.

Petite Eats Divider Plate with Lid  + b.box 2 in 1 Suction Plate Both are great for separating foods and introducing variety without overwhelm. The lid makes it perfect for leftovers or meals on the go.

Remember, mess is part of learning. Which brings us to the next part.

Embrace the mess without hating the clean-up

If starting solids has taught me anything, it is that babies are enthusiastic but not tidy eaters.

Sleeved Bibs and Classic Bibs These are a game changer. Sleeved bibs protect clothing during messy meals, while classic bibs are perfect for lighter meals and snacks.

Messy Mats Pop one under the highchair and save your floors, your sanity and your time. Easy to wipe down or throw in the wash.

Drinks, snacks and independence

As your baby grows, they will want more independence at mealtimes. (yay!)

Subo The Food Bottle A fantastic option for yoghurt, oats, smoothies and purées without the squeeze mess. Babies control the flow and you control the clean-up.

Snackbox Perfect for snacks at home or on the go and encouraging self-feeding skills while reducing spills.

Sippy Cup Easy to drink out of and NO leaks! It's a win win.

Transition Value Pack This includes 4 cups in 1, taking bubs from bottle feeding to toddler training in one great value pack.

A gentle reminder for parents

There is no one right way to start solids. Some days your baby will eat everything. Other days they will throw it on the floor and laugh. Both days are normal.

Keep it simple, and trust that you are doing a great job.
